Keeseekoose First Nation

Keeseekoose First Nation is a Saulteaux band of more than 2700 registered members. The Nation’s home reserve is located north of Kamsack, Saskatchewan in the boreal transition eco-zone. Keeseekoose’s name honours Chief Kiishikouse (kîšîkôns, Giizhigoons, “little sky,” or “little heaven”), who signed an adhesion to Treaty 4 at Swan Lake, Manitoba in 1875.

Since the Nation’s first election in 1952, Keeseekoose has advanced self-governance. The Nation undertook many initiatives during the 1950s and 60s, including land clearing, road and infrastructure development, hosting its first powwows, launching the Keeseekoose Rangers hockey team, introducing electricity, building a new school and farm, and much more.

Each new decade since then has brought new growth and investment – the spirit of progress and self-determined advancement continue to drive the Nation’s activities today. In 2023, Keeseekoose leadership established Little Heaven Development Corporation for the purpose of pursuing sustainable economic investment and development activities on behalf of future generations.
